  1. Open the Safari browser.
  2. Close all the windows in Safari. Sometimes Safari leaves one window open. You can close this last window by clicking the "browser pages button" after all other windows are closed. This will enable you to close the final browser window.
  3. Go back to the home screen by clicking the home button.
  4. Double-click the home button to show all apps running in the background. (If you have an older device, double-clicking the button may not do this. If this is the case, just ignore steps 4 and 5.)
  5. Hold your finger down on the Safari icon. It will start to shake and give you a close option. Close Safari, so that it is no longer running in the background.
  6. Go back to the home screen.
  7. Open Settings.
  8. Choose Safari.
  9. Click "Clear Cookies and Data." (On pre-iOS 5 devices, click "Clear Cookies" and "Clear Cache.")
